CANTERBURY:George Mahinganui
Ngamotu34
Does anyone out there know any Canterburys?
Hoping to find someone who knows some of their whanau history.
My friend's father was whangai'd by the Canterburys in the late 1940's, early 1950's, and he named my friend Kane.
I found a Kane Canterbury on the bdm site, he could be George's brother.
So I'm hoping to find someone who has heard of my friend's father etc..

This is the first time I have tried a search on a pakeha name and it is hard! Especially seeing as it is also a place, a region, a council and lots of businesses also have Canterbury in their names!

The only thing I could suggest to you is to try the white pages search - there are a few people there as well as businesses so the list is not all that long.

Good luck! Grin

Kia ora, we are searching for my kuia's whakapapa and she was a Canterbury. Unfortunately we know little about her, as she (Juliet) died when my mother was 5 (approx. 1965), we believe in Taihape.

I think the Canterburys were in Patea . I know that a Canterbury is buried at Kaitupeka Marae in Taumaranui.
