Thread subject: Papa Panui - Notices :: BOWMAN PIRIKA, John (Jack): Finding my koros whanau

Posted by Samantha Murphy on 20-11-2017 10:10

Kia ora! My name is Samantha Ann Te wairemana Murphy.
My mothers name was Serena Ann te wairemana Bowman Pirika.
John (Jack) Hura Bowman Pirika was my koros name.
His mothers name was Te wairemana Bowman.
From the Coromandel, Koputauaki Bay.
I know of 2 of my koros brothers, Norman & George a.k.a Hori te oti.
Have done some research & found a Hura Pirika. Am wondering if he could possibly be my koros father? On enlistment to WWI, Hura Pirika listed Waara Pirika (father) as n.o.k from Koputauaki Bay. The names are there & in the right area just looking to make some solid connections.
Please if you know of any of the names I've mentioned feel free to leave a comment or contact me via ph/txt:0273766539
Nga mihi.

Kia ora!

You raise an interesting question about if Hura Pirika could be the father of your koro. Considering that the name of your koro is John (Jack) Hura Bowman Pirika there would be a high possibility.

Use the Whakapapa Search on Google and FamilySearch page and create searches there - you never know what you may find.

Is Pirika the translation for Bowman?
I ran Hura Bowman through that search and found a John Hura Bowman who served in WWII from Koputauaki, Coromandel, New Zealand and next of kin Mrs T. Bowman - could this be your koro?

If so, then check out the Whakapapa - Naming Conventions to get ideas of other names you could seach for.

You could try at the DBM Historicla Records where you may find some old information for references to cross reference.

If I have confused you post any queries you may have.

Good luck! Smile
